SMIB Management

SMIB Management Inc. — Enrolled Agents, federally licensed to represent taxpayers before the IRS.

Why this site exists

We built Open the Letter because of what we kept seeing across the desk: people arriving months late — not because their situation was hard, but because the envelope was frightening. The fear costs more than the tax. Windows close, interest compounds, and options narrow, all while a letter sits unopened in a drawer.

So this site does one thing: it removes the fear that comes from not knowing. Every page describes IRS notice types in plain English, compiled from the IRS’s own public descriptions, with the deadline facts stated calmly and the folklore corrected. No countdown clocks, no sirens, no “act now.” That is the opposite of how we work.

How we work

Enrolled Agents are federally licensed to represent taxpayers before the IRS — which means when you hand us a matter, the IRS corresponds with us. We read the actual letter, pull the actual account records, and lay out the options the rules actually provide. Then you decide, informed and unhurried.

The consultation is a conversation, not a commitment. Many people leave it with nothing more than a clear picture and a simple plan they execute themselves — and that is a perfectly good outcome.

We also hold to a simple rule about money: cost should never keep someone in the dark about their own IRS situation. The first conversation, the investigation, and the written report of findings are free. Payment arrangements are available for our services, and they don’t depend on a credit check. We settle the details plainly before any work begins.

The next step

When you’re ready to hand this to someone

The first step is a free consultation — a quiet conversation with a licensed professional, no pressure and nothing to prepare. If you want to go further, we investigate your IRS file and put what we find in a written report. That’s free too.
